Visitor Visa

Coming to Canada for a short visit? Whether you're visiting family, exploring the country, or here for business, you may need a Visitor Visa (TRV) or an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA), depending on your passport.

What is a Visitor Visa (TRV) or eTA?

A visa is required in order to board a plane to come to Canada, depending on the passport of the country you are travelling with. A Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) is a counterfoil sticker that is placed in your passport. Upon entry to Canada, the visitor can stay for a maximum of 6 months. An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an electronic document that is linked to your passport.

  • Valid passport

  • Funds

  • Intent to leave Canada at the end of the visit

  • Is not inadmissible to Canada (for medical, criminal, or security reasons)

  • Medical exam completed

Processing time: it varies significantly. For example: 

Philippines – 32 days, Spain – 107 days, Senegal – 375 days.
